Congratulations Cory – 2019 Open Champions

Cory successfully managed to retain the British Open Championship title with a stunning performance of Peter Graham’s ‘Dynasty’ that impressed the live and virtual audience, but more importantly the adjudicators. Playing from the favourable draw of 16 out of 18 bands Cory took to the stage under Musical Director Philip Harper with the confidence you’d expect from the reigning champions. 

 
Although Foden’s led the charge in the first half of the draw, with some superb playing from prize winner Richard Poole on Soprano, Black Dyke took the competition to another level with Daniel Thomas awarded the Geoffrey Whitham Memorial Trophy for his efforts on solo euphonium. It was Cory however that managed to win the day impressing adjudicators Nigel Boddice MBE, Dr Stephen Cobb and Stephen Roberts, in no small way owing to the sublime playing of Principal Cornet Tom Hutchinson, who led the band with aplomb and deservedly won the Brian Evans Memorial Trophy.
