London City Brass Launch

A new, progressive and welcoming brass band has formed in the heart of the City of London.  London City Brass will rehearse every Wednesday evening at The Guild Church of St Margaret Pattens on Eastcheap.

Members of the band previously played as part of the North London Brass network, but have now launched as an independent ensemble, under the Musical Direction of Andy Brittin. A Registered Nurse by profession, Andy has been involved in brass bands for over 35 years, mainly as a euphonium or trombone player, but also as a conductor for bands in and around London and Essex.

The band’s first gig was to play ‘Regent’s Park Musical Festival on the Bandstand’as part of the Royal Parks’ summer programming.  Players are now focusing on developing their new repertoire ahead of a series of autumn engagements, culminating in London City Brass’ first Christmas Concert on Friday 13th December at St Mary-at-Hill in the Square Mile.

The band’s membership is already booming, with only one permanent vacancy on 2nd Baritone, but the Musical Director is always happy and willing to hear from interested players who might like to come along and join in.

Speaking about the new band, Musical Director Andy Brittin said:“We’re really excited to be starting our new musical journey as London City Brass.  I’m lucky to work with such a great bunch of talented musicians and we can’t wait to get out and about to show people what we can do.

“I wanted to pay tribute to North London Brass for everything they have done for us historically and say thank you to Martyn Stogden personally, who founded the network. With Martyn and North London Brass we have shared some brilliant experiences, from contesting the French Open in Amboise, to playing on the pitch at Twickenham.

“As we move forward as an independent band we look forward to building on those firm foundations and sharing our music even more widely, with local audiences and the wider banding community.”
