Cory Composition Prize Winner 2019

Congratulations to Marcus Venables from Canada who won the Cory Band/RWCMD 2019 Composition Prize with his fantastic piece ‘Colussus’. Adjudicators Liz Lane, Chris Bond and Nigel Seaman had their work cut out for them in deciding a winner from the high calibre of finalists at the Dora Stoutzker Hall on Sunday, but there was no doubting that Marcus was a worthy winner.

A spokesperson from the band commented on the success of the event, “Huge congratulations go to Marcus Venables for his wonderful new work for band and congratulations also to Mathias Wehr and Stijn Aertgeerts on reaching the final and for producing such amazing pieces. It was a really tough decision for our judges, Liz Lane, Chris Bond and Nigel Seaman and thanks to them all for making up this year’s panel. A big thanks also to Kapitol Promotions for their generous sponsorship.”

As always Cory was on superb form and ably showcased the brand new works for band; the audience could have been forgiven for forgetting that these were all actually premiere performances, such was the high level of playing from the European Champions.
