Cory Band Composition Prize
Fresh from emphatically winning the BrassPass.tv 'UK Band of the Year' with their stunning performance, the Cory Band will be hosting its annual composition final at the RWCMD in Cardiff this weekend.
The event is due to take place on Sunday 30th June at 3.00pm and will feature three compositions written by finalists Marcus Venables, Stijn Aertgeerts and Mathias Wehr. In spite of hailing from Canada, Belgium and Germany respectively Cory is delighted that all three composers will be in attendance for the event.
Cory will also be performing a world premier of a piece written that same day on the day by a group of teenage composers, thanks to a new initiative spearheaded by Liz Lane. Commenting on the event, M.D. and composer Philip Harper stated, "We've had another great response to the Composition Prize, and our thanks go to Kapitol Promotions for linking up with the band and the college to sponsor the event. The standard this year was excellent and we're delighted that the three finalists will join us to hear their pieces played.
“We’re so pleased that Liz will be working with a group of young musicians in a special workshop on the day to create a work for the band to play in the concert, of course that will only give us half an hour to rehearse it!"
