Lions Youth Brass, Audley Brass and Robert's Bakery Band to help Foden's

In 2018 Foden's were crowned the National Champions of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall, London and were subsequently invited to represent England at the European Brass Band Championships to be held in May 2020 in Palanga, Lithuania.

On the 12th May Lions Youth, Audley and Roberts Bakery Band's will hold a fundraising concert at Ruskin High School, Crewe commencing at 2.30pm. Each band will provide a 25 minute performance with Mark Wilkinson performing with Lions Youth Brass and Gary Curtin performing with Audley Brass. The concert will conclude will a number of massed items.

The concert organiser Nigel Birch commented, “Lions Youth Brass have developed a great working relationship with Foden's over the years and Foden's gave considerable support with workshops and a successful fundraising concert which helped Lions perform so successfully at this year’s European Youth Championship. Also, Mike Fowles, their Musical Director, celebrates 10 years as Associate Conductor of Lions this year. We have joined together with Roberts Bakery Band and Audley Brass to support Foden's efforts to get to Lithuania as many of the players in both of these bands have benefited from Foden's during their time with Lions. On a personal note our family have always supported Foden's and as well as myself playing for them in the mid 80s, two of my brother in laws, Stephen Cooke and Mark Owen previously played in the band. Kevin Birch, my brother, has a son Nick who is a member of the Foden's trombone section so this is of great significance to the Birch family.”

Speaking on behalf of Foden's Mark Wilkinson commented, “All at Foden's would like to thank Nigel for arranging this concert and to Lions, Audley and Roberts Bakery for giving up their valuable time to help us. We are looking forward to representing England at the European's next year and have been extremely busy arranging various fundraising events. The generosity showed by these bands will certainly help our fundraising appeal as we look to cover the estimated £20,000 costs to participate in this contest.”

Tickets for the concert are £10 with under 14's free and are available from Nigel Birch nigelcbirch@gmail.com or 07507911185
