African Brass Ambassadors!
At the beginning of the year it was announced that following a successful visit to Nairobi, a program of tours to other African countries would begin. We are now pleased to announce that in January the main band, Mbale Schools Band, will be travelling to Rwanda to perform a series of concerts, and the Senior Band, Ugandan Brass, will be travelling to Zimbabwe.
A spokesperson from the organisation commented, “Our players are proud that we are a group of players who do not rely on constant overseas donations to manage our daily activities. We don't have overseas managers and we have taught our children that if you want something then you have to go and earn it by playing at public functions.”
Although the children have saved to pay for their own travel and accommodation to visit Rwanda on the bus, it's not fair or realistic to expect them to find the money to pay for tickets to travel to Zimbabwe. It’s too far away to reach by bus meaning costly flights are the only viable form of transport.
