BrassFestUK go 'Into the Future'

BrassFestUK and Pennine Music are delighted to announce the release of Into the Future by Max Stannard - the winning entry in the BrassFestUK Composition Contest chosen as the event’s anthem for 2018 by a panel comprising Philip Harper, Gavin Somerset and Christopher Bond.

The 2018 BrassFestUK weekend takes place from 6 - 9 July and involves 135 bands and events, which will perform ‘Into the Future’ as part of their programmes. BrassFest Organiser, Rob Tompkins said: “I am really pleased with the chosen piece - Max has taken last year’s anthem, The Spirit of Brass, and created his own piece in a similar style with a few hints of Spirit of Brass thrown in. He has worked with Pennine Music to get both versions of the piece ready and I’m delighted that Pennine Music is once again offering the pieces at £7.00 for download and £10.00 for printed versions. The main work is aimed at 3rd/4th Section bands, and the additional piece is a simplified version that can be played by training and youth bands. Both pieces work on their own, but also work when played together.”

Cory Band will record Into the Future, which will be made available to bands to listen to at www.brassfestuk.com and www.penninemusic.com as well as to radio stations with a brass band slot. It is hoped that sales of the recording will surpass those for The Spirit of Brass.

Rob Tompkins paid tribute: I would like to thank Pennine Music for sponsoring the event; to Gavin for all his time in working with Max to get the pieces ready; to the panel for an excellent choice; and to Cory for kindly offering the time to record the 2018 anthem. It is great to have such a supportive group - without their help the BrassFest project would never be as popular as it is.”

BrassFestUK is growing, both in terms of the number of events taking place and its popularity, as is the Composition Competition. There is also a BrassFest Entertainment contest later in the year.
