Cory 'get on their bike and ride' to Utrecht!

After successfully raising over £3,000 last year to donate to the Cory Band to compete at the European Championships, 2018 will see another cycling challenge taken on by Cory President Morgan Jones and Musical Director Philip Harper.

Philip said: “The financial help which this effort provided last year was invaluable to Cory’s attendance at this important and prestigious event. We were of course delighted to qualify to represent Wales once again this year, but it left us with the usual financial headache. As well as raising money for the band, last year’s challenge was a great personal goal for us all, and so we decided to do it all again.”

Morgan added: “The only issue is that Utrecht in Holland is about 150 miles further than last year’s destination, Ostend in Belgium, so we’re going to need to train even harder to go the distance! At least those 150 extra miles are basically flat.”

Philip Harper will cycle the 80 miles from his home in Gloucestershire to the Cory Bandroom in the Rhondda Valley on Monday 30th April, then Morgan Jones (with fellow cycle-club members Arwel Griffiths, Paul Williams and Carwyn Jones) will pick up the baton and set off for Utrecht on Tuesday 1st May, aiming to arrive in time for the beginning of the contest at 4pm on Friday 4th May. This team will cover well over 500 miles in this time, and they need your help!

A new campaign page has been created on the funding website justgiving.com, so please visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/philip-harper2 to read more about the challenge. Any pledges, however small, would be much appreciated, so if you want to show your support for Cory Band in its attempt to bring the European title back to Wales, please make a donation on the website.

Updates of progress through the training regime and through the final week will be made on social media, so please also like the Cory Band’s facebook page, and follow @coryband on Twitter.
