German Challenge conquest

At the the 39th European Brass Band Contest, Italy lost its Challenge Section title to the German Brassband Sachsen - Brenden Wheeler was there for BBW.

Since its inception in 1994, the Challenge Section of the European Championships has been an important platform for new ‘banding nations’, enabling bands from these countries to showcase their developing talents to their musical peers.

Success stories of the Challenge Section include bands like Brass Brass Oberösterreich and Germany’s 3BA-Brass - both now serious contenders in the main Championships.

This year six bands took part in this prospering contest, all required to play the set piece Samson by Paris-born composer, Rodolphe Schacher - a symphonic poem that takes its inspiration from The Old Testament and biblical fable of Samson and Delilah. Competing bands were
