John Gillam catches up with his former Brighouse and Rastrick colleague, Ewan Easton MBE, now Principal Tuba, Hallé Orchestra, and a musician who remains committed to the brass band movement.

JG: I first met you on an NYBBGB course 41 years ago, but got to know you better when we met again at Huddersfield School of Music, when I was a student finishing my tuba lesson with Tom Atkinson and you were waiting to see him next! Has your career gone as you had hoped?

EE: Ha! That was a long time ago! At that time, my focus was to be the tuba player in the LSO; that was all I thought about. However, what happened in real life has been just as enriching for me as that job could have been. I have had such a diverse career for sure. I feel very fortunate…
