Future Vision

Despite disappointing delegate band support, the first National Conference hosted by Brass Bands England provoked lively discussion and a lens on what the future might look like with collective consensus. Dr. Richard Jones distils the day’s engaging activities

In true Dickensian spirit, Brass Bands England (BBE) opened up its self-confessed ‘second phase’ of development with its inaugural National Conference at Bridgewater Hall, Manchester on 3 December. A number of delegates from around the country were presented with an outline of what the organisation had achieved, along with information about current projects and a vision of what the future could yield with the help of BBE.

It was somewhat disappointing that few bands chose to send participants to the event, which may indicate that BBE has a long journey ahead before the whole movement collectively chooses a sensible way forward.
