‘Time for Brass’ presenter celebrates 90th Birthday
Ian Cottier, a freelance presenter of Manx Radio celebrated his 90th birthday on 25th March. Ian has been presenting the weekly ‘Time for Brass’ for an incredible 45 years, something that may well make it the longest continuously running music show in the British Isles! Even when he’s been away on holiday, Ian has recorded the show and never missed an episode.
Ian came up with the idea for the show whilst still working as Headmaster at local St Ninian’s High School on the Isle of Man. The show highlights the best in brass band music from across the world alongside many local bands on an Island with a strong tradition and thriving brass band community. The weekly one-hour show is broadcast at 9pm on a Monday evening from Manx Radio’s studio on Douglas Head.
Manx Radio Managing Director Chris Sully (Pearson), said, “Ian is a broadcasting legend on the Isle of Man, and his show has huge and popular appeal across the whole community. Spending half of your life presenting and producing the same show is a remarkable achievement and one which we believe, could be a record in the British Isles for a music-based show being presented by the same presenter.”
The station marked the event with a get together and presentation of engraved whiskey glasses and a bottle of something nice to put in them! The show is available Monday evenings from 9pm online at https://www.manxradio.com/radioplayer/fm/ or as a Listen Again show at https://www.manxradio.com/radioplayer/od/
