The Kirkintilloch Band announces Tribute to Peter Fraser
Eminent Scottish composer Peter Graham has been commissioned by The Kirkintilloch Band to write a special piece of music in memory of the late Peter Fraser MBE.
The composition is to be called ‘Keeper of the Flame’ which Prof Graham has described as, “a tribute to Peter Fraser, whose lifelong dedication to The Kirkintilloch Band – his great passion, sustained it both musically and behind the scenes. Built on the melody of Loch Lomond, the work reflects a deep sense of tradition and continuity”.
The Kirkintilloch Band is delighted to announce that, thanks to the generosity of supporters, 65 per cent of its JustGiving target to fund the commission has been reached. The campaign was established to commission the new work in memory of Peter Fraser, a deeply respected and much-loved figure within the Scottish and European banding community.
Prof Graham added: “The title honours those whose quiet commitment keeps tradition alive. Peter Fraser was such a figure – a steadfast presence whose loyalty, care and service helped to carry the band’s spirit from one generation to the next. In this sense, he was truly a keeper of the flame.”
The band is thrilled that Peter Fraser will be commemorated in such a meaningful and lasting way. Band manager Allan Wardrope commented: “Peter’s passing has had a profound effect on our movement in Scotland. His popularity among all bands was incredible. We are delighted to have commissioned this work from one of the very best brass band composers of our time, which will serve as a lasting tribute to Peter’s influence and legacy.”
The JustGiving page remains live and the band warmly welcomes any further support to help bring this special commission to fruition. For more information or to contribute, please visit the page.
