Take Two for Belgian Youth Brass Band

The second meeting of the National Youth Brass Band of Belgium took place recently in town of Lier. The weekend saw 50 young musicians gather under the guidance of conductor Luc Vertommen with tuition also provided by Lode Violet (cornets), Johan De Win (horns), Wim Lauryssen (trombones), Frederik Leroy (baritones/euphoniums), Guy Audenaert (basses) and Sven Beerens (percussion).

Building on last year’s inaugural meeting, the class of 2026 also included ‘Next Brass’ a separate group of even younger members. Led by Wim Lauryssen and Luc Van Gorp, they rehearsed a varied programme of compositions with guest soloist Roger Webster. The Youth Band worked on Gilbert Vinter's 'Spectrum' in addition to original works by Tom Davoren, Kenneth Downie and Goff Richards. Commenting on the continued success of the Belgian Youth Band Luc Vertommen said, "The course was another major step forward to secure the future of Belgian banding based on these talented young players."
