Romantic Brass
On Valentine’s Day evening the cooperation band gave an appreciative audience an opportunity to hear some of the late John Wallace’s final music arrangements. The appropriately-named Romantic Brass concert, took place in the Sherbrooke Mosspark Parish Church, Glasgow, and featured the rich and expressive music of Saint-Saëns, Chopin, Liszt, Dvořák as well as several brand-new arrangements receiving their premiere performances.
This very special programme, curated by John Wallace CBE, was described by the band’s principal conductor Katrina Marzella-Wheeler as being “full of passion, drama and love”. She said: “The music is incredible. I’m so grateful to have learned all these pieces – the new settings of the Liszt and Dvorak are stunning – and what a joy to conduct some classics. We didn’t know at the time it would become his final artistic statement.”
The band chose to honour John’s legacy, with funds raised through donations at the concert being given to the Beatson Cancer Charity which provided so much care and support to John during the latter months of his life. A spokesperson from the band said, “Thank you to all that attended Romantic Brass! We appreciate the support from everyone as we try to raise as much as possible for the Beatson Cancer Charity!” Donations can still be made via this link.
