Support for Marsden Silver
Marsden Band have had a devastating start to the new year. A burst internal water pipe in the roof area caused severe flooding throughout the entire Bandroom on all three floors. Water has ruined floors, walls, and ceilings. Precious instruments are damaged or destroyed. Hundreds of years of irreplaceable sheet music are soaked and lost. Uniforms, essential equipment, and furniture are all damaged. The ground floor, first floor, and upper rooms are unsafe and unusable.
A representative from Marsden stated, “We are shattered by this sad incident, but we are determined to carry on. Logistically, we face a long road ahead with insurance claims, drying out the building, eventual repairs and replacement of equipment. The band need to keep rehearsing as we prepare for the Yorkshire Area Championships in early March, but we cannot do it alone.
“We have been overwhelmed by the offers of support and help from our friends, supporters and the wider brass band community. This fundraising page has been set up to allow those who have expressed a desire to make donations to help us with the costly road ahead.”
The banding community is offering musical as well as financial support to Marsden Silver Band with the launch of the 'Diadem Challenge', where fellow bands or individuals can play the band's 'signature tune', the hymn 'Diadem (number 18 in the famous Red Hymn books), as a show of support, in addition to making a donation to the cause.
The band has set an initial target of £10,000, which has currently been 65% met. A number of bands have now taken part in the 'Diadem' challenge, thus raising the profile of Marsden’s plight through social media coverage.
