125th Celebrations Planned for Bradwell Silver
Bradwell Silver Band celebrates 125 Years of music-making in one of the UK’s newest cities. Band members, Trustees, supporters from the local community and neighbouring brass bands gather to celebrate Bradwell Silver Band’s 125th Anniversary.
Bradwell Silver Band, proudly rooted in one of the original villages that predate the new city of Milton Keynes, is celebrating its remarkable 125th anniversary in 2026. With a thriving Development Band and strong community support, the organisation is looking ahead to an exciting new chapter while honouring more than a century of musical heritage.
Founded on 15 January 1901, Bradwell Silver Band is the oldest continuously operating musical group in Milton Keynes, maintaining an unbroken tradition of performance for more than a century.
Over its long history, the band has enjoyed numerous memorable moments, including performing for the In-Pensioners at the Royal Hospital Chelsea and representing the United Kingdom at a British-themed weekend in Belgium as part of an international fireworks competition.
The Band’s vibrant development programme offers free tuition and instruments, nurturing emerging talent and supporting musicians at every stage of their musical journey. Over the years, it has helped many players progress to principal and featured positions in respected UK bands and leading music ensembles.
The band is perhaps best known locally for its cherished tradition of Christmas morning performances, which begin at 6:00 a.m. and bring music to the streets of New Bradwell. Today, social media has amplified this tradition: the band receives countless requests for videos and heartwarming messages from former residents across the country who fondly recall waking up to their Christmas tunes.
Brian Keech, Musical Director of Bradwell Silver Band, shared: “Bradwell Silver has been part of my whole life, and my involvement is something that makes me very proud. I am lucky to follow in the footsteps of previous MDs from our 125 years.”
To mark its 125th anniversary, Bradwell Silver Band will host a special celebratory concert at The Chrysalis Theatre on 23 May 2026, featuring guest soloist Jack Wilson. Jack, a former member of the RAF Central Band and current Soprano Cornet player with the internationally acclaimed G.U.S. Band, began his musical journey with Bradwell Silver Development Band.
The concert will also debut a newly commissioned work by celebrated composer Alan Fernie, written specially to commemorate the band’s milestone anniversary. ‘Echoes of St James’ was named by popular vote and honours the community church and band concert venue, a valued partnership throughout the years.
"We are incredibly proud of our band and our heritage, as we celebrate 125 years, we look forward to a year filled with music-making, community, and continued growth." In good humour, the band notes that, despite persistent rumours, none of the original 1901 players are still performing today!
