BBSS ready for a Brass Spectacular!
This year’s Brass Band Summer School, taking place from 3-9 August 2025 at Harrogate Ladies’ College, will culminate in a Brass Spectacular Finale Gala Concert on 8 August at St Wilfrid’s Church, directed by Dr Robert Childs and featuring guest trombone soloist, Rebecca Lundberg.
Rebecca is an accomplished trombonist, composer/arranger, and educator. She holds a First-Class Honours degree in Music from the University of Huddersfield, where she received several awards, including the Harry Mortimer Prize for outstanding brass musicianship. She went on to complete a Master’s in Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music under the guidance of Chris Houlding. Rebecca is currently principal trombone of the Fairey Band and her performance career includes appearances across the UK and Europe, as well as solo features on BBC Radio and at the World Music Festival.
The course itself will include the traditional and much loved rehearsals and sectionals for the Sovereign and Imperial bands, in addition to solo and small ensemble opportunities, tutor’s recitals and the Brass in Concert event. There is a stellar line-up for this year’s tutorial staff including Brian Taylor, Chris Bradley, Christopher Turner, Owen Farr, Zoe Lovatt-Cooper, Rebbecca Lundberg, David Childs, Mike Cavanagh, Les Neish and Sam Milton.
The concert will feature a wide array of music from traditional marches, overtures and hymn tunes, to contemporary originals from the likes of Sir Karl Jenkins, Philip Sparke and Edward Gregson. In addition, Fairey Band's star principal trombonist, Rebecca Lundberg, will feature as guest soloist in Simon Wood's beautiful setting of ‘Blessed Assurance’ and Stefan Schwalgin's up-beat arrangement of ‘What about Feeling Good’.
