Double day’s delight for Hepworth

Hepworth Band and MD, Ryan Watkins, retained its Morley March and Hymn Tune Contest title, playing ‘The Wizard’ march and ‘In Love for Me’ hymn tune. This brought double delight and another £600 for the band after already topping the Blackburn and Darwen contest on the same day (22 June). A Hepworth spokesperson stated on social media, "A fantastic day out, and a great reward for the band's hard work and commitment. Huge congratulations to all the prize-winners and thank you to the organisers and supporters who keep these brilliant contests marching on - rain or shine!"

The popular contest is supported by Morley Town Council and Besson London, with a much loved format where bands march from the Ernie Wise statue in Morley to the Town Hall. Stannington was runner-up and Skelmanthorpe took third place. In fourth was Yorkshire Imperial with Tewit Silver and Tewit Silver Community Brass taking fifth and sixth respectively. Along with Tewit Youth Senior and Tweit Youth, the organisation carried home five different awards.
