Royal Visits in Scotland

Among the engagements of King Charles and Queen Camilla while on a visit to Kirkcaldy in Fife on Thursday morning was the unveiling of a new commemorative cairn to mark the centenary of the Kirkcaldy War Memorial. Providing the music for the Royal occasion were members of the Dysart Colliery Silver Band.
Even the rain didn’t dampen the occasion which included a service of rededication at Kirkcaldy War Memorial on its 100th anniversary in remembrance of those named on the memorial. Previously the King had visited Fife in October 2022, for his first official engagement as he conferred city status on Dunfermline.
The following day it was the turn of Campbeltown Brass to entertain the Monarch. King Charles was in Campbeltown to attend a farmers’ market and meet charity and community organisations in the town hall as part of Holyrood Week, an annual tradition that sees that monarch spend a week in Scotland each July. Providing the musical welcome were members of Campbeltown Brass as more than 1000 townspeople and visitors lined the streets.
The King dropped in on a number of retailers including a fishmonger, butcher, fruit and vegetable shop and chocolatier. He ended his visit by meeting a series of organisations from HM Coastguard to the RNLI and Sea Cadets by the harbour along with local nursery school children. He also received a bespoke bottle of a 25 year old single malt whisky by local distillery Glen Scotia as a memento of his visit.
Campbeltown Brass commented on social media, “What a privilege to play for His Majesty King Charles today right here in Campbeltown! The buzz around the town was unreal — such a brilliant day with great music, great vibes, and so much local talent on show. Massive credit to all the legends who make this community what it is. Even the rain mostly stayed away. We’re sure the King was impressed with the warm welcome he got — and we were proud to be part of it.”
