Rothwell wins French Open Championship
The 2025 French Open Championships took place in the wonderful Loire Valley town of Amboise this weekend. The event began in fine form with a welcoming ceremony at the Chateau d' Amboise, where the draw and mini concert by Amersfoort Band on the eve of the contest. Ten bands across the five sections competed for the top spots in their respective divisions, all presided over by adjudicators Chris Jeans, Laurent Douvre and Peter Collins.
Rothwell took the Championship honours this year with an assured performance of Gregson’s ‘Dances and Arias’ with MD Dave Roberts at the helm. Matthew Reasbeck on Euphonium, added the icing to the cake by taking individual honours as the overall best soloist. A spokesperson for the band commented, "What an incredible day in the stunning setting of Amboise. We are thrilled to be crowned the 29th French Open Champions. A huge congratulations as well to our very own Matthew Reasbeck, who was awarded Best Soloist. A day to remember, for sure!"
