Life membership awarded to Sanquhar Player

Congratulations to Karen Ewart, solo baritone player with Sanquhar and District Silver Band, on receiving her life membership medal from the Scottish Brass Band Association for her lengthy service to brass banding.
Karen, who is the fourth Sanquhar member to receive this recognition, started on the baritone at the age of 12 and has played almost exclusively with the band ever since.
The medal presentation took place at the band’s spring concert at which conductor Christine Wilson stepped down to make way for her successor Euan Gibb.
Sanquhar secretary Fiona Najder said a few words outlining Karen’s musical career before handing the platform over to Bill Love, himself a SBBA life member, to present the medal to a rather stunned Karen.
Karen, who also serves on the band committee, is pictured with fellow life members Bill and Jim Lowe. The trio have amassed almost 150 years of service between them.
