Ash qualifies for Scottish Young Musicians Final

Ash Paton, principal cornet player of Renfrew Burgh and Riverside Youth bands, has won the Renfrewshire heat of Scottish Young Musicians competition. Ash, who is taught by Lynda Nicholson, performed the third movement of Hummel's ‘Trumpet Concerto’, impressing adjudicator Camille Mason and coming out on top among a tight field of competitors.

Reflecting on her success, Ash said, "The event was a fantastic showcase of the incredible musical talent among Renfrewshire’s young people, marked by a strong sense of camaraderie and friendly competition but, more importantly, with support from both the audience and fellow competitors. I feel honoured to have been awarded first place, and it is a real privilege to represent Renfrewshire at the Scottish Young Musicians final."

Ash will join Newmilns & Galston’s Luke Parkhill, who will represent South Ayrshire, at the Scottish Young Musicians final at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on Sunday 25 May.
