Hat-trick for the Co at Fife Festival

The cooperation band made it a hat-trick of consecutive wins when they successfully defended their Fife Brass Band Festival title in the Lochgelly Centre, Lochgelly, last Saturday with a programme of music based on ‘The Silk Road’ by Simon Dobson. Conducted by Katrina Marzella Wheeler, the band was a clear victor, beating second-placed Kingdom Brass by three points. Taking the third spot was Lochgelly, the top First Section band who were deemed to have played the most entertaining set.

Bryan Allen was the music adjudicator this year, with Madelaine Baker and Jill Gillespie the entertainment judges. Compere for the day was Susan Chown. Each band was required to play an own-choice 20-minute entertainment programme, which included a solo item. Whitburn Youth Band, led by Caroline Farren and sporting their smart new uniforms, performed a short concert while the results were being collated.
