BBCA Extends Competition Entry Date

Acknowledging that conductors are busy people, so the BBCA has taken the decision to extend the deadline for entering the BBCA Conducting Competition to midday on Tuesday 22 April to allow time to prepare over the Easter weekend. A spokesperson for the organisation stated, “We want to encourage as many people as possible to take advantage of the individual feedback and conducting opportunities this competition brings. The competition is open to conductors of all levels, and we invite entries from anywhere in the world.”

Entry into the first heat is easy. Simply submit a video of up to 15 minutes’ worth of yourself conducting. It can be as simple as setting up a mobile phone at a rehearsal or concert with you in view.

Stuart Black is a previous entrant to the competition. Listen to Stuart’s YouTube video https://youtu.be/Q_OS02oPVXI where he talks about the experience of taking part and how it can help you as a conductor. This year competitors have the chance to work with the Hammonds Band and Elland Silver Band in Halifax Minster on Saturday 28 June.

Presentations will be made to the top three finalists and the best UK-based entrant, who will all receive a glass plaque. The winner will also receive a cash prize of £200, a year's free membership of the Brass Band Conductors' Association and have the opportunity to work in rehearsal and performance, with the championship Foden’s band and Russell Gray.
