Scottish Championships record for Whitburn Trombonist

Whitburn’s victory at the recent Scottish Brass Band Championships was a very special one for the band's solo trombone player, Paul Kiernan.

Paul has now won the Scottish Championships 20 times – thought to be a record in the history of Scottish brass banding.

Paul has won the championships across two spells with Whitburn and a successful period with the cooperation band.

He has also won the John Campbell Medal for the best trombone player on 12 occasions, with four coming at Whitburn. His first with the band was in 1990 and the latest was in 2023. This is also a Scottish record.

Congratulations, Paul, and here is to many more successes in the future!
