Croy Silver celebrates 150th anniversary with visit from Provost

Croy Silver Band is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. Founded in 1875, the band has been at the heart of the local community for generations, bringing music and tradition to audiences across Scotland and beyond. To celebrate the milestone, North Lanarkshire Council Provost Kenneth Duffy and Councillor Heather Brannan-McVey visited the band during a rehearsal at the village’s Antonine Sports Hub.
The VIP visitors congratulated the musicians, listened to a musical performance and admired trophies from the band’s recent successes. The band secured third place at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain last September, having won the Third Section in the Scottish Championships in March. Provost Duffy praised the band's achievements, saying: "Reaching 150 years is an extraordinary milestone, and Croy Silver Band should be incredibly proud of its legacy. Their success on the national stage reflects the dedication and talent of its members, and I have no doubt the band will continue to thrive for years to come."
Musical director Kenneth Blackwood also shared his excitement about the anniversary: "We are honoured to celebrate 150 years of Croy Silver Band and to share this special occasion. "Our focus now is on continuing our rich tradition of brass banding, competing at the Scottish Championships in March and performing for our local community." With a year full of celebrations, competitions and engagements ahead, Croy Silver is looking forward to an action packed anniversary.
