UniBrass Band Camp

UniBrass is delighted to present Band Camp, a new exciting brass band summer school experience specifically for students and those aged 18-25. Designed to be different, Band Camp is a brass band summer school like no other. Led by esteemed music director David Thornton (Grimethorpe Colliery Band, RNCM), Band Camp is a five-night residential summer school with a UniBrass twist.

Band Camp is for any brass or percussion players aged 18-25 at the time of the course, or those over 25 in higher education. You don’t have to be a current university student or at a university with a band that competes in UniBrass. If you’re aged 18-25 you are welcome to attend. This includes school leavers pre-uni, current students, and those not involved in higher education. 

Band Camp 2021 will be running from Wednesday 25th - Monday 30th August, and will be based at Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre, near Sheffield. In true UniBrass style, rehearsals, sectionals, and workshops will be balanced with excursions, outdoor activities and plenty of evening entertainment. Performances will take place at a number of locations across Sheffield, including informal tourist attractions and a final course concert. Guest tutors will be announced soon. Commenting on the new venture Musical Director David Thirnton stated, “UniBrass has injected energy and drive to band activity and now Band Camp will extend that work. I’m looking forward to a great event; full of quality music, creativity, team building, fun and performances. I personally can’t wait!”

You’ll have the option to stay in bunkhouse dormitory accommodation, or to camp if you prefer. You will need to bring your own tent and camping equipment if you choose to camp. Band Camp will cost £190 for bunkhouse accommodation or £160 for camping. These rates are on a half-board basis, and self catering facilities are available too. You can choose to pay in one lump sum or split into a deposit and second payment.
