SBBA offer Digital support for Bands

The Scottish Brass Band Association is pleased to announce a new digital support initiative that is being made possible through funding from Creative Scotland. The project comprises a series of workshops for those youth and senior bands who are looking to overcome the barriers associated with the technical difficulties of producing a virtual performance.

“The workshops are open to all bands, but especially those who have been deterred from trying because of their lack of skills and experience in producing an online musical performance and their perceived fear of using the appropriate technology,” explained SBBA education officer John Boax (pictured).

The sessions will be hosted by tutors who have experience delivering virtual band performances, including Keven Anderson and Iona Crosby. The two-stage presentations will cover the initial task of putting together a virtual band before moving on to completing the finished product. There will also recommendations and demonstrations of what free software is available.

Keven is a cyber security expert who has produced many virtual recordings for Lochgelly Band. Music teacher Iona put together the online performance of the Perth and Kinross Percussion Ensemble which won the prize for the most entertaining programme in last year’s Scottish Virtual Youth Brass Band Festival.

If you would like to be part of this exciting project, either as a band looking to get on board the digital experience or someone who can pass on the knowledge gained as a workshop deliverer, please get in touch with John Boax at sbbaeducation@gmail.com before 1 March.
