Star line up for Manx charity performance

Rushen Silver Band in the Isle of Man held a concert on 21st October with star guests in the form of conductor Richard Evans and soloist Bobby Corkish from The Fairey Band. The whole event was funded by the Alistair Drinkwater Memorial, set up in memory of band member Alistair Drinkwater who passed away from cancer 20 years ago. The evening raised a brilliant total of £1,364 for charity which will be split between The Salvation Army and The Chris Lucas Trust.

It was particularly poignant that Bobby Corkish returned as guest soloist as he first learnt to play with the Rushen Silver Band. Since those early days he has represented the Manx band as a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, before leaving to pursue his tenor horn studies at Royal Northern College of Music and taking the first horn chair at Faireys.

Tom Sinden, chairman of the band spoke fondly about the concert stating: “The event was funded by the Alistair Drinkwater Memorial Fund, so every penny of the total raised will be to our two chosen charities. The Salvation Army do a lot of work on the island to help the more vulnerable in our community, whilst The Chris Lucas Trust funds research in to defeating the cancer that afflicted Alistair, so it is terrific to be able to help both causes through Alistair's Fund. We are very grateful to Richard, Bobby, the Friends of Rushen Silver Band and everyone that attended the concert for making it such a memorable evening. ”
