Grimethorpe excels in big ‘Brassed Off’ moment

 “We just thought this would be a film that might interest ten people in Barnsley… for about three minutes.”

These were the words of Brassed Off Director, Mark Herman, in a Q&A prior to the screening of the film when asked what he thought the public’s response to the film would be, prior to its release in 1996. Twenty-one years on, rapturous applause from a sell-out crowd (with surely more than ten people from Barnsley present) greeted Grimethorpe Colliery Band and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra (RPCO) as they took to the stage to perform the soundtrack to the film on a big screen above the Royal Albert Hall stage…
