BBW Solo CD of the Year

Fantasy by Philip Cobb is the unanimous winner of BBW's Solo CD of the Year Award, chosen by an esteemed panel of judges including Roger Webster, Sheona White, Glen van Looy, Nicholas Hudson and Christopher Thomas.

Not simply a ‘fantasy’, this disc is also a celebration and showcase of the breathtaking talent of the London Symphony Orchestra's Principal Trumpet player, accompanied by the Central Band of the Royal Air Force, conducted by Wing Commander Duncan Stubbs and Squadron Leader Piers Morrell, recorded by World of Sound.

Commenting on the Award, Philip Cobb told BBW: “I’m delighted that Fantasy was nominated for Solo CD of the Year, and that the panel enjoyed listening to it. A great deal of time and effort by so many people goes into a project like this, and there is no greater satisfaction than hearing that people are enjoying your work. I’d particularly like to thank The Central Band of the RAF and its conductors for their fantastic backing throughout the recording, Adam Goldsmith of World of Sound for his patience until the bitter end, my dad for his constant support and guidance, World of Sound for the opportunity to do the album, and Lyndon Chapman and The Buffet Group for their sponsorship and fantastic instruments.”

Wing Commander Duncan Stubbs also commented: “To acheive this award is fantastic. Working with Phil Cobb was a particularly rewarding experience and we were all inspired by his musicianship and instrumental technique. Being able to work with such fabulous soloists while conducting the Central Band of the Royal Air Force remains an incredible privilage that I will cherish for many years to come."
