Steven Mead reporting live from the National

Steven Mead will once again be providing BBW's live twitter commentary of the National Championships of Great Britain from the Royal Albert Hall tomorrow. Having won the coveted title as solo euphonium with both Desford and CWS Glasgow in the past, it is a competition and indeed a venue he will be familiar with.

Once again (as with last month's British Open) Steven will be taking the opportunity to test his criteria mark system, this time listening to 20 performances of Simon Dobson's Journey of the Lone Wolf. Following each performance, in addition to providing commentary via BBW's twitter platform (@BBWMagazine), Steven will be submitting his own marks, which will then be posted at www.4barsrest.com, together with Chris Thomas's written remarks. (A complete retrospective of the event written by Chris Thomas will appear in the November edition of BBW).

Steven commented: "I've updated the criteria just a little, after discussion with several colleagues. I've removed the 'Tempo' criteria and added another that covers the musicality and overall impressions of the performance. So still we have 10 different criteria, with a total of 200 marks available to be awarded."

If you're going to the National in London, Steven invites you to download, print out and take copies of the sheets with you to take part in the experiment for yourself!
