Grimethorpe sign Jonathan Bates

Following the recent resignation of Miles Davison, Grimethorpe Colliery Band is pleased to announce Jonathan Bates as Principal Horn.

Speaking on behalf of the band, Musical Director, Dr Robert Childs told BBW: "I've known Jonathan for a number of years through the NYBBGB and his time at Black Dyke. His horn playing is second to none and he's also a fine composer; he is one of the most complete musicians I know. Everyone at Grimethorpe is delighted Jonathan is joining.

Commenting on his new band, Jonathan said: "Grimethorpe Colliery has always, and will always be a huge name throughout the banding movement, and it is a great privilege to be able to accept the role of solo horn with the band. Performing and travelling on a regular basis has always been one of my great passions, and the band's concert schedule is one that offers a great variety of high profile engagements, yet also allowing equal time to develop and concentrate on my composing and solo performance commitments."

Jonathan will make his contest debut with Grimethorpe at this year's British Open.
