Owen Farr goes Stateside

On 13^th May Owen Farr began his American journey as the featured artist and guest soloist for the Dublin Youth Brass Band Course in Columbus, Ohio. The course, aimed at middle and high school students, included private lessons, sectionals, master-classes and concluded with a concert performance at Dublin Coffman High School. Although Owen was kept extremely busy working with the youngsters under the directorship of Diana Herak and Jonathan Waters he did manage to find time to squeeze in a trip to the local zoo and even a camel ride!

From Columbus, Owen travelled Oakland University in Detroit where he conducted the University Band in addition to giving a recital on May 17^th. Following this short stop over Owen then continued his travels to join the Brass Band Battle Creek to prepare for their concert on 21^st May in the WK Kellogg Auditorium. Owen joined Martin Armstrong and Lisa Bontrager in the horn section of the famous band, as they rehearsed the music of the American Rock Band, Chicago. Commenting on the experience Owen said, “I feel so honoured and privileged to have performed with the Battle Creek Brass Band. The concert was incredible and all the instrumentalists involved are just out of this world. I can’t wait for the December gig now!”
