Brass at the Guild line-up announced

Lancashire Contests are delighted to announce the list of competing bands and adjudicators for this year's Brass at the Guild, which will take place at The Guild Hall, Preston on Sunday 24th January.

The competing bands will have the opportunity to showcase either their set work for the forthcoming Area contests or the Butlins Mineworkers Championship, as they seek to get their hands on part of the generous £4,500 prize fund that is on offer.

The six sections will feature forty-six bands. In the Guild Hall, David Thornton will be adjudicating the Championship Section, Sandy Smith will oversee the First Section with Kevin Wadsworth presiding over the Second Section. John Doyle will be in the Charter Theatre where he will make the decisions in both the Third and Fourth Sections.

The organisers are delighted to announce that the highest placed band in the Championship Section event, who is not already invited to the British Open Spring Festival in Blackpool, will gain an automatic invitation to compete in the Senior Trophy in May.

In addition to the five sections, the The British Open Youth at the Guild Festival will once again take place in the Charter Theatre with Kevin Wadsworth making the all important decisions. The prestigious British Open Brass Band title is once again on offer with the kind permission of Karyn & Martin Mortimer, to whom Lancashire Contests are very grateful. The format of the competition is a 20 minute own choice programme of entertaining music.

Lancashire Contests are extremely pleased that R. Banks & Son (Funerals Ltd) and especially the Proprietor Brian Halliwell has agreed to support the Contest this year. We express our thanks to Brian for his help and support.

The organisers would also like to remind any band which has not confirmed their choice of test-piece in advance of the day itself to confirm it with contest administrator Frank Hodges as soon as possible.

Lancashire Contests looks forward to welcoming old and new friends to Preston on what is always an enjoyable day in the contesting year. The list of competitng bands, together with venue, test-piece, and schedule details is below:
