RWCMD & Cory Composition Prize

The Cory Band, in partnership with the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD), announces the 2016 RWCMD Cory Band Composition Prize details. After the success of the inaugural 2015 event won by Lewis Furber for English Counterpoint, entrants are invited to submit pieces of no more than ve minutes duration for consideration for a shortlist of three, all of which will be performed by Cory at a RWCMD Gala Concert on 21 May.

Four judges - Philip Harper, Philip Sparke, Kevin Price and Nigel Seaman - will consider the shortlisted entries and the winner will be announced on the night. The winning piece will be performed and recorded by Cory, published by Wright and Round, and the winner will receive £250 in cash donated by Kapitol Promotions, which presents the British National Championships.

Cory’s MD, Philip Harper, told BBW: “We are not specifically looking for works that push artistic barriers in terms of what a brass band has to offer the wider musical scene, we are deliberately inviting pieces that would t easily into most bands’ usual concert presentations.”Entry forms from www.coryband.com or email philip@philipharper.co.uk
