Wantage Youth Brass Launched

Wantage Band is delighted to announce the launch of Wantage Youth Brass. Led by Sara-Jane Wallbridge, the band is for young players aged between 11 and 18 and becomes the seventh band within the successful organisation. Wantage Youth Brass is providing young players with opportunities to extend their musical skills and experience. As the band progresses it will be able to enter local and national contests, put on concerts and go on tour.

At its inaugural rehearsal the band attracted sixteen players, but it is hoped that it will grow as the band’s popularity spreads. Players are welcome to attend from anywhere within Oxfordshire or the neighbouring counties. There are no auditions but players will need to have reached at least grade 3.

Musical Director, Sara-Jane, is a graduate of Birmingham Conservatoire and has been a member of the championship section Wantage Band since 2012. She is a very popular brass teacher in Oxfordshire and tutors many of the young players in the Wantage bands. Sara said, “I am really looking forward to the challenge of leading Wantage Youth Brass. It is so exciting to create a brand new band and to work with such enthusiastic players. We want to give our band lots of positive and rewarding experiences. As well as developing them as musicians we also want to provide social opportunities. Our first performance will be at the Wantage Band Annual Concert in October.”

Young people wishing to join the band can get further details from judith.nov.67@gmail.com.
