New President at Elland

Elland Silver Band organisation is very pleased to announce The Reverend Canon Hilary Barber as its new President. The position of President became vacant following the very sad and untimeley loss of their President Lord David Shutt, David had been associated with the band for many years as an external trustee and latterly as President.

Canon Hilary Barber is The Vicar at Halifax Minster, he was appointed to the Minster in 2007 and before that, he had twelve years working in the Manchester Diocese. His current work falls into four categories: Care of the Minster and it’s people; Chaplain to the private, public and third sectors across the town of Halifax and borough of Calderdale. He is also very much involved with the Major Churches network and the movement for Urban Minsters. He is committed to helping Halifax punch above its weight in competition with all the other northern towns on the M62 corridor. He is married to Sarah and they have four children and in his spare time he loves gardening, music, walking and visiting France. He is an avid supporter of Manchester United!

Hilary is also learning to play the Eb Bass in Elland Silver Training Band. Three of his children have also been part of Elland life:  Joshua, who now studies music at a high level was a very valued member of Elland Silver Youth Band whilst his siblings, Rosie and Seth are current members of Elland Silver Youth Sections.

Members of Elland Silver Youth Band played a tribute to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, during a break in their rehearsals at Halifax Minster, on Saturday. The band was able to enjoy a first main rehearsal together in appropriate socially distanced, Covid-19 regulated conditions since lockdown earlier this year. Elland Silver Band and all its members are looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Hilary.
