Grimethorpe locked down…but living

Grimethorpe’s recent recording of ‘Dial H for Hitchcock’ by acclaimed composer Nigel Clarke is being used as part of an innovative dance performance project. Studio Wayne McGregor, Northern Ballet and Gary Clarke Company are uniting in a world-premiere triple bill of contemporary dance and ballet called ‘Locked Down, Locked In, but Living’. This triple bill will see spaces in the Lawrence Batley Theatre come alive like they never have before with the works being performed in the empty Lawrence Batley Theatre, recorded and screened to ticket holders.
But living

Grimethorpe’s contribution features in the third part of the performance, ‘But living’ where the 1903 film of Alice in Wonderland offers a dramatic and hyper-theatrical backdrop for this world premiere dance production by award-winning choreographer, Gary Clarke. Gary revamps this much-loved classic for the modern day using Nigel Clarke’s ‘Dial H for Hitchcock’. ‘But living’ flips the popular children’s tale on its head in this site-specific response, Alice is no longer trapped in Wonderland, but instead animates the unseen labyrinth of the Lawrence Batley Theatre. Dancer, Gavin Coward embodies all of the different psychological states experienced during lockdown, capturing the themes of entrapment, isolation, loneliness and escapism which in many ways are similar to the emotions experienced by Alice as she tries to navigate her way through Wonderland. Poetry and Costume Design by Gary Hartley Farrar compliment this surreal narrative.

Performances will take place between 28th September to 20th October with tickets priced at £12. Ticket holders will receive a screening link via email so that they can enjoy an evening of original dance from their homes on the day of their booked performance. Each link will expire after 24 hours. To book or for further information visit https://www.thelbt.org/shows/locked-down-locked-in-but-living/
