Wobplay launches to deliver brass on demand

wobplay - the first ‘Netflix-style’ on-demand subscription audio and video streaming service for brass performance, was launched yesterday (3 September) by World of Brass, offering unparalleled audio and video listening and viewing.

Having invested in audio and video recordings for over two decades, World of Brass has arguably the most extensive back catalogue of mainstream and Salvation Army band, ensemble and soloist recordings, along with an extensive collection of DVDs and the complete live-streams of many major contests – all now accessible on www.wobplay.com

For competitive rates of just £7.99 monthly, £19.99 quarterly and £69.99 annually, subscribers can access this treasure trove of recorded audio and video footage.

Said Trevor Caffull, the MD of SATCoL which owns both World of Brass and wobplay: “For roughly the equivalent price of one hard copy DVD, subscribers can enjoy access to the platform for three months and, given the sheer volume and breadth of content already accessible on demand, I believe that represents phenomenal value!”
World of Brass Brand Manager, Nicki Tonge, also commented: “The platform is unique in combining both audio and video, and ultimately will include our entire library. Our focus is to offer the entire brass music market the same on-demand streamed access enjoyed by consumers in other mainstream music markets.”

Already on wobplay are ‘Latest releases’, ‘The contest stage 2019’, ‘Stunning soloists’, ‘Anthologies’, ‘Great gala concerts’, ‘Brilliant entertainment’, ‘Major works’, ‘Salvation Army focus’, ‘Composer profiles’ and ‘Even more brass videos’ and a ‘Heritage’ corner is planned.

Audio includes the complete Doyen, World of Brass, SP&S audio releases, and Polyphonic recordings that will appear on site in due course. New releases coming soon to entice: the aforementioned ‘Landscapes’ – the first of Cory Band’s ‘Cornerstones’ of the repertoire recorded series – exclusive to wobplay in the first instance; Richard Marshall’s ‘Sonatina’; Gary Curtin’s ‘Eire Time’ with Foden’s Band; products from The International Staff Band and Philip Cobb; and a host of other archive material.

The Company also has a back video library of: pre-2014 ‘European’ and Brass in Concert championships; last year’s British Open Championships; high-profile concerts including, for the Salvation Army devotee, ISB120 and the 2015 Boundless Congress; plus the early Millennium Gala Concerts of the British National Championships – Epic Brass and Jubilee Brass, which will be streamed on 10 October, the day that this year’s National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall should have taken place. All video previously recorded for DVDs contain hours and hours of never-before-seen footage due to the constraints of editing down by two-thirds for the DVD format.

BBW understands that discussion and multi-year agreements are on-going to continue live-streaming major events in the future, ensuring plenty of future gripping major event listening and viewing.

With an eye on wobplay content development, Trevor Caffull said: “We can also move much closer to the concept of virtual concerts, which in Covid-19 is significant, as well as bring video footage filmed at recording sessions, meaning that we can feed audio, video, or both onto the site.”
