Willebroek launches international “Solo Contest”

After a successful online soloist contest, Brass Band Willebroek will be organizing a new live edition for brass players. With a prize pool of no less than 5,000 euros and a professional jury panel, the band invites everyone to participate in the contest. On Sunday 22 November 2020, the Municipal Theater Willebroek will burst with brass talent, in an event which adheres to all of the Covid-19 guidelines.

Traditional, but with a new look. That is the concept that the current Belgian and world champion wants to radiate. Four age categories in two beautiful halls with a professional jury comprising of Arthur Vanderhoeft, Bastien Baumet, Kristien Schuurmans and Luc Vertommen.

Lode Violet explains, “This first edition is all about a safe organization. There are still many ideas that we want to realize but are not possible due to the current circumstances. We certainly hope to give the brass players a new purpose in these strange times with some fantastic prizes. Our thanks go to our main sponsors, Lemca Musical Instruments, Buffet Crampon, Yuja, the Municipal of Willebroek and many others who support this project”

The highest category is provided with a live stream by Yuja and a live report combined with several interviews by CU Brass. Spectating is interactive with audience members also acting as judges and voting for his or her favourite participant. Whoever gets the most votes wins an audience prize of 250 euros.

The other prizes also appeal to the imagination: compositions dedicated to the winners by Stijn Aertgeerts and Nick Van Elsen, lessons with one of the soloists of Brass Band Willebroek, vouchers from Lemca Musical Instruments, Buffet Crampon & Hal Leonard and performing as a soloist accompanied by (Young) Brass Band Willebroek. In addition, the prize winners have a chance of winning a generous cash prize with 1,000 euros being awarded to the winner of the highest category.
