BBS announce Composer in Residence

Brass Band Schoonhoven announced the exciting news that talented young British composer, Christian Overhead, will now be Composer in Residence with BBS. Over the past few years, the band have worked with Christian on many occasions, performing not only various opening pieces by his hand, such as 'Fanfare in Orange' and 'Intrada for Rouen', but also collaborating for big events like Brass in Concert 2016 and 2019. In 2017, he wrote the challenging 'Underground Concerto' for euphonium and brass band, commissioned by Robbert Vos. This special bond between Christian and BBS will be even stronger in the future with the band members and conductor are very excited to see what this partnership will bring as well as looking forward to performing many of Christian’s pieces in the future.

Speaking about his appointment, Christian stated, “It’s an honour to be announced as the official Composer in Residence for reigning Dutch champions, Brass Band Schoonhoven. A band I know well from my time in the Netherlands!

“I was fortunate to be a playing member of the band for four years, on both cornet and tenor horn - winning two National titles, competing in two European Championships, and making many lifelong friends in the process.

“Having already collaborated on a few compositions over the past few years - including Brass in Concert sets, and the ambitious ‘Underground Concerto’ for euphonium virtuoso and resident conductor, Robbert Vos - I know just what this fantastic band is capable of, and how receptive they are to new repertoire.

“With some great ideas for future projects already in the pipeline, I’m very much looking forward to what I’m sure will be an exciting and fruitful partnership!”
