Scottish Opera Helps

The Scottish Opera have embraced the well known superstore tagline of ‘Every Little Helps’ as they support the UK supermarket chain, Tesco during the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the coronavirus pandemic causing the closure of theatres, the Opera’s performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Gondoliers, along with all other concerts, small-scale performances and events were cancelled until further notice.

General Director Alex Reedijk released the following statement, “Here at Scottish Opera, the health of our supporters, staff, artists and musicians is our ongoing priority and we will be following UK and Scottish government guidelines over the coming months.  We urge you all to do the same.

“We are extremely grateful for all the support that is helping us through these challenging times. This is as vital to us now as ever. We are also touched by all the kind messages we have received in the last few days. Please be patient as our box offices work through the refund process in the coming weeks. However, we do hope to see you back in our theatres in the not too distant future.”

In the meantime on the Scottish Opera’s twitter feed it is clear that although they are closed for business as usual, the Opera is still finding a way to support the nation: ‘While our theatres are closed due to the Corona Crisis our truck drivers and cabs are doing their bit to keep our supermarkets stocked. #EveryLittleHelps’
