Gregson used for Poignant Farewell

Well respected British Composer Professor Edward Gregson was commissioned by the BBC to write a piece to mark Britain’s exit from the EU. The piece, entitled ‘Notes between Friends’, uses elements of some existing well-known Classical pieces and featured today (31st January) on BBC Radio 4 at approximately 5.55pm.

In 1973 Gregson also wrote a piece named ‘Fanfare for Europe’ to announce the UK joining the European Economic Community, the forerunner of the EU. Commenting on the commission, Eddie alluded to the fact that he had been requested to write a piece of music that was ‘neutral’ in its political stance, containing both British and European dimensions, but candidly added, “It’s certainly more poignant than joyful!”.
