Alan Thomas impresses with the Coldstream Guards

Principal Trumpet of the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Alan Thomas, delivered a superb master class and recital at the Guards’ Chapel, London on Wednesday 11th December.

A spokesperson for the event from the Coldstream Guards commented, “Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported our trumpet recital yesterday! We had an amazing day with the Principal Trumpet of the CBSO, Alan Thomas.

“In the morning he delivered a fun and insightful masterclass where we all learnt so much! The afternoon was spent putting the finishing touches on our recital with students from the Royal College of Music and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.  The evening’s recital was a joy to be a part of, with a varied programme of trumpet music featuring many fantastic arrangements by world class trumpet player and arranger Ryan Linham, the audience and performers were kept highly entertained throughout.

“The performances from both the College and Conservatoire students were superb and we are so grateful that they joined us for the last piece the massed trumpet Messiah! And if all that wasn’t enough, Alan performed some solo items that left everyone in the chapel stunned and in complete awe. We are so lucky in this job that we get to play music every day and even luckier that we get to play alongside and be inspired by such incredible musicians like Alan Thomas!”

Alan added his thanks to his wonderful piano accompanist, Jo Sealey before stating, “It was a total privilege to have been a part of this project led by the Trumpets from the Band of the Coldstream Guards, and including trumpets from both Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Royal College of Music.”
