New Solo Baritone at Black Dyke

Black Dyke is delighted to have secured the services of the highly respected Baritone soloist Michael Cavanagh. Since graduating from Royal Northern College of Music Mike has enjoyed a distinguished profile being a founder member of the extremely successful A4 Brass Quartet and having held the solo baritone position at Grimethorpe Colliery and more recently the Brighouse and Rastrick bands.

Commenting on the new venture Mike said, "I'm delighted to be joining Black Dyke on Solo Baritone, following in the footsteps of two of my former teachers Peter Christian and Katrina Marzella Wheeler. It's an honour to fill a seat that's had so many greats over the years and I'm looking forward to a highly enjoyable and successful tenure with the band. I'd also like to thank Brighouse & Rastrick for an enjoyable few months and wish them all the very best for the future.”

Professor Nicholas Childs is equally delighted at the appointment stating, “Mike is an outstanding player and I’m sure will be a great asset to the band. We look forward to welcoming him at the beginning of the New Year once he has honoured his commitments with B&R.”
