Yorkshire Youth Band in fine form

The first gathering for Yorkshire‘s premier Youth Band took place in Saddleworth School in Uppermill on 9th November. The course was directed by Richard Marshall and Brett Baker with tutors and staff from Black Dyke including Dan Thomas, Siobhan Bates John O'Brien, Adam Neild, Laura Conway, Matthew Routley, Neil Edwards and Becky Childs.

With some exciting new repertoire by James Curnow, Paul Lovatt-Cooper and Dan Price, full band and sectional rehearsals took place on the challenging new music. After lunch a workshop led by Richard Marshall, Dan Thomas and Brett Baker discussed practice routines, approaches to playing and playing philosophies with the whole tutor team.

Parents packed into the School hall at 3.30pm to listen to the band perform excerpts from Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s ‘Haunted Halls’, Dan Price’s ‘Starburst’ and James Curnow's ‘Appalachian Mountain Song Suite’.

Alison Childs YYBB administrator commented, “it was exciting and wonderful to hear the young musicians sounding so fantastic, and this only our first gathering of the season!”

The next course is on Sunday 16th February 2020, again at Saddleworth School, and any young players of grade 4 and above interested in coming along to work with an experienced and enthusiastic group of tutors, should contact Alison Childs at Alison4horn@btinternet.com

The Yorkshire Youth Band is sponsored by Geneva Group and looks forward to next courses and their performance in the Black Dyke Festival held in Leeds Town Hall on 21st June, 2020.
