James Fountain announces a move to the LPO

Following a distinguished five-year tenure as Principal Trumpet of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra James Fountain has announced that he will be moving to the London Philharmonic Orchestra early in the new year.

The London Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the world's finest symphony orchestras, balancing a long and distinguished history with a reputation as one of the UK's most adventurous and forward-looking orchestras. As well as giving classical concerts and opera performances in the UK and internationally, the orchestra also record film and video game soundtracks, have a record label, and reach thousands of people every year through activities for schools and the local communities.

The Orchestra was founded by Sir Thomas Beecham in 1932, and since then has been headed by many of the great names in the conducting world, including Sir Adrian Boult, Bernard Haitink, Sir Georg Solti, Klaus Tennstedt and Kurt Masur. Performing at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall in London since it opened in 1951, and becoming Resident Orchestra there in 1992, the orchestra also has flourishing residencies in Brighton, Eastbourne and Saffron Walden, as well as being the Resident Symphony Orchestra for the Glyndebourne Festival Opera  since 1964.

Commenting on his new role James stated, “I'm excited to announce that I'll be joining the London Philharmonic Orchestra as Joint Principal Trumpet, starting February 2020. I've had the most incredible time at the RPO and would like to thank my amazing colleagues who have supported and encouraged me so much since I started there almost 5 years ago! I'll miss you all so much and it was an incredibly difficult decision to make. I’m now looking forward to the next couple of months, going out in true RPO fashion with a Classic Spectacular Marathon, an insanely busy Christmas period and the regular mammoth USA Tour in January.”
