Michael Howley takes the reins at Thoresby

Thoresby Band has announced that RAF musician, Michael Howley, will take over from Ian McElligott as Musical Director. Michael is well known to the banding community as a graduate of the RNCM, a Willson Performing Artist and has performed with many of the UK’s top-flight bands. Commenting on the appointment he stated, "It is with great excitement that I take on the role. The band has impressed me greatly with their enthusiasm, commitment and dedication. We have a busy Christmas concert schedule and a very exciting 2020 planned."

The band wish former MD Ian McElligott well for the future stating, “Under the direction of Ian we enjoyed a successful period spanning four years, which included two consecutive appearances at the National Championships and achieved promotion to the Grand Shield. We wish him well.”

Ian responded, "It's been a pleasure to lead Thoresby though one of its most successful periods on the contest platform in recent years, but the time was now right to seek and consider fresh opportunities to conduct ambitious and forward thinking ensembles whilst embracing new musical challenges." He will continue to work as Resident Musical Director of Carlton Main Frickley Colliery.
